People of Serverfarm – Malia Mukes

Cloudify your data center with InCommand

Serverfarm simply doesn’t function without the incredible team members who keep this company running every day. We’re proud to include Malia Mukes in that group; as a Critical Facilities Services Administrator, she’s been a vital component of our Chicago data center team for more than two years. Keep reading to learn a bit about Malia.

As the Critical Facilities Services Administrator, Malia Shavonne Mukes says she was immediately drawn to the vibe of Serverfarm. She originally started working in security for the building wherein her role she connected with the Serverfarm staff, who offered her a position of CFS Admin to Mike Whitman and Joe Russell.

“I like that it’s a close-knit company. Everyone is acquainted with one another. I am happy coming to work, that says a lot,” Malia shares.

Starting at 7:30 a.m., her day-to-day routine is busy and ever-changing. She oversees administrative duties, is active with the InCommand Portal, assists with various tasks for the Toronto and Oak Brook site, as well as attending internal and client meetings.

“My favorite part of this position is the learning part, the Team at SF CH1 takes the time to answer any questions that I may have (usually a lot),” says Malia. “Sometimes I watch them perform tasks; this helps me to become more proficient in my role. It’s pretty exciting for me.”

“I want to launch a nonprofit organization helping girls and young ladies cope with the evils of everyday life.“

Outside of work, Malia is a dog lover – with four Pit Bulls of her own – and has a deep appreciation for philanthropic causes such as St. Jude Children Research Hospital, ASPCA, homelessness in youth, and in education. While her workday is busy, she has also set aside some goals for herself.

“I want to launch a nonprofit organization helping girls and young ladies cope with the evils of everyday life.”

Malia, who went to school to be a Medical Assistant, is also a Phlebotomist, which she greatly enjoys, and she would like to return to school in the future.

“Most people don’t know that I want to open my own Funeral Home/Crematorium and that I want to be a Mortician. That is my dream and my passion.”

But in the present, Malia is happy to continue to learn and grow as part of the Serverfarm community.

“The family-like atmosphere has kept me with Serverfarm. I am learning a lot here. I didn’t know anything about the data center industry, so every day I have the pleasure of learning new things.”

Thank you, Malia, for sharing your story with us!
