On Monday March 23rd, 2020 the data center and technology industry came together to confront the threat of COVID-19 with the announcement of a major initiative to make supercomputer resources available for research into the virus.

The COVID-19 High Performance Computing Consortium is bringing together the US Federal Government, industry and academic leaders to provide access to the world’s most powerful high-performance computing resources in support of COVID-19 research. “The COVID-19 HPC Consortium encompasses computing capabilities from some of the most powerful and advanced computers in the world. We hope to empower researchers around the world to accelerate understanding of the COVID-19 virus and the development of treatments and vaccines to help address infections,” the group said.

Researchers are invited to submit COVID-19 related research proposals to the consortium via this online portal.

Members of the consortium include NASA, MIT, IBM, Google, Microsoft and AWS with additional members who can contribute significant compute power welcome to apply, an email link is provided on this page.

March 23 is already an important day for Supercomputer processing power as it is World Meteorological Day and World Water Day https://worldmetday.wmo.int/.

We are grateful to see the fantastic work being done by the scientists and IT experts working together for the good of humanity and our planet. As an acknowledgement, Serverfarm is pleased to share this list of the world’s top supercomputers being used to help tackle climate change – some of which will also now be used for research to help eradicate COVID-19.
